Gavin Michael Marcel's Obituary
Gavin Michael Marcel passed away on Tuesday, December 14th, 2021 at the age of 36. He was born in Gretna, LA on May 23rd, 1985 to Stephen Joseph Marcel and Lana Gisclair Marcel.
Gavin is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly Joan Marcel, of 17 years. He was the loving father of Leland, Molly, and Norah. Gavin was the youngest sibling of Eric (Laurie), Melissa, and Kristin Marcel; Godson of Stacey Marcel Goldsmith and Dave Marcel Jr.
Gavin was the son-in-law of Melissa and Wade Stewart; Macon Ayres and Angela Gallagher; brother-in-law of Tabitha Suarez (David), Ashton Stewart, Max Stewart, Morgan Stewart, Mason Stewart, Garreth Ayres, Shannon Gallagher (Blake), and Cole Gallagher; grandson-in-law of Joan Stiglets and Glenn Metzger.
Gavin was proud to be the Godfather of Helana Michelle Marcel and Matthew Stephen Marcel. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Emily Marcel, Timothy Marcel, Madilyn Donmyer, Isadora Suarez, and Freya Barrois.
Gavin is preceded in death by his grandparents; Nolan Gisclair Sr., Helen Hebert Gisclair, Ennis Marcel Sr., Shirley Aguilard Marcel; aunt, Faith Percle; uncles, Gary Gisclair, Jed Gisclair and Ennis Marcel Jr.; niece, Alexis Michelle Marcel.
Gavin was raised in Marrero, LA. He attended Fisher High School and was also a longtime student of martial arts before making the decision to join the US Navy. He served as a Master at Arms from 2005-2009 before making the switch to the US Army, where he became part of the 11b Infantry from 2010-2013, and finally closed his military career as a contracted Veteran with Academi LLC. With a solid background in security and a love for helping others, Gavin found himself among other veterans and retired policemen as a Security Officer with Ochsner Northshore- a home he was happy to have.
Gavin loved to laugh. He seemed to make it his mission to collect a smile from every person he came into contact with. He was a big-hearted and devoted friend to anyone and everyone - never knowing a stranger - and would gladly give anything he had if they needed it. He believed wholeheartedly in compassion, and gave it fully without ever expecting in return.
Gavin also loved to talk. Much like Google, a simple question - a simple word, even - could cause him to pull one of thousands of possible subjects from the ever expansive database that was his mind and turn anyone into his captive TED talk audience. From the advancements of Science and Technology, to the Mandela Effect and Quantum Theory, to the Lord of the Rings and the Marvel Cinematic Universe; there was never a subject that Gavin wouldn't want to discuss. You never walked away from him without a little more knowledge... which is always what he aimed for.
Above all things, Gavin loved his family; both the family he was born with, and the family he gained when he met the love of his life. His greatest pride was being a Son, a Brother, a Grandson, an Uncle, a Parrain, a Husband, and a Father.
