Gary L. Hammett's Obituary
Gary L. Hammett, 54, went home to be with the LORD on September 29, 2008 at his home in Sun, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Ave., Covington, LA on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A visitation at Kingston Road Baptist Church, 8900 Kingston Road, Shreveport, LA will begin at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 3, 2008 followed by services at 1:00 PM. Pastor Stephen Teal of Austin, Texas, will be officiating.
Internment will follow at Forest Park West, Cemetery, Shreveport, LA.
Col Hammett was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 17, 1954 to H.E. and Virginia Hammett. He graduated Woodlawn High School in 1972 and later graduated from Louisiana Tech University. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Bogalusa, La. He was a member of the Louisiana National Guard for over 30 years of service to his nation, state and community. After retiring from Louisiana National Guard, he worked the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve as the Executive Director for nearly five years. Gary was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Col Hammett is survived by his wife of 33 years, Robbi Jean Mercer Hammett of Sun, La; his mother Ms. Virginia Lucas Hammett of Shreveport, La; his two sons, Deputy Jeremy Robert Hammett of Metairie and his wife Rachel; SSG Mark R. Hammett, of Covington and his wife Jennifer; Granddaughter Isabella Grace Hammett of Covington and two bothers, Colonel Terry G. Hammett of Sibley, La and his wife Vallie; Alan Scott Hammett and his wife Paula of Bivens, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be CSM Frank Huff, CSM Ronald J. Grant, COL Robert Hudnall, LTC Tim Chastain, MSG Dave Thompson, Col Ronnie Stuckey, COL Cliff Oliver, and Willard Conley.
