Frederick Joseph Charles Wichers III's Obituary
Frederick Joseph Charles Wichers III passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the age of 65. Depending on where you knew him, he went by Joey or Fred. Joey was born in New Orleans, LA on August 6, 1957 to Frederick J. Wichers, Jr. and Madeline Whitehead Wichers.
Joey leaves his loving wife of 44 years, Kari Dubois Wichers; two sons Frederick “Duke” Wichers IV (Becki) and Adam R. Wichers (Syera); and his grandchildren, Frederick “Charlie” Wichers V, Lane and Lily Morse, Karlos Duvall, and Olivia Wichers. He also leaves his siblings, Kathy (Keith), Jeffery (Kitty), Lori (Jay), Melissia (Brian), and Aunt Joann Whitehead Gill.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Wanda Wichers; and grandparents, Frederick J. Wichers Sr., Henrietta Wichers, and Ina Wichers.
Joey was a graduate of Belle Chasse High School in 1975. After high school, he got a job in the oil field industry driving big rig trucks for Otis Engineering. Joey joined the Louisiana Air National Guard where he spent many years in Belle Chasse working on the flight line as an Aircraft Mechanic and in the “AGE” shop. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of active duty service with the 159th Fighter Wing.
Joey and Kari were married in July 1978. They resided in Belle Chasse until 1991 when they chose to move their family to Folsom, where they have remained for the past 31 years. In 2003, Joey became a school bus driver for St. Tammany Parish in the Folsom area. The kids knew him as Mr. Fred. He was loved by everyone that knew him, especially his kids on the bus. Fred was also an animal lover. He loved his dogs, Pepper Jack, Neo, and Suzie Q. He loved his Harley motorcycles, old cars, and drag racing. He was an amazing mechanic and could fix anything. He was known in the community for helping anyone who needed help and always did it with a smile. He had a work ethic like no other; was a jack-of-all-trades, had a can do/fix-anything attitude and was a man of his word. Joey/Fred had a heart of GOLD and will be sorely missed by all.
The family would like to thank the Folsom Volunteer Fire Department, Folsom Police Department, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Department, Acadian Ambulance, Ochsner Flight Care, and the ER staff at Lakeview Regional Medical Center for their expert care and efforts in trying to save our dad. The family would also like to extend thanks to Mr. Cameron Breaux.
