Fernande Yvonne Griffin's Obituary
Fernande Yvonne Volle Griffin passed away in the comfort of her home in Covington, Louisiana with her family at her side on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was 86 years of age. She was the beloved daughter of the late Marie Delphine Chevalier-Curt and Fernand Calixte Joseph Volle of Lyon, France. She was a native of Lyon, France, a WWII war bride who traveled on the SS Brazil arriving to the United States on April 25, 1946 to begin her new life with her true love the late Joseph Melvin Griffin and resided in Covington, LA for 63 years.
She is survived by her loving daughter Marie France Griffin Duracher (husband David), her two loving grandchildren Jane Yvonne-Marie “Janie” Duracher and David M. “Buddy” Duracher, Jr. of Covington; and her sister Raymonde Chevalier and nieces and nephews of France.
She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Robert H. Burns, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude for the compassionate support and loving care of the nurses and doctors of Hospice of St. Tammany, Drs. Thomas Franklin, George Riser and Craig Seicshnaydre and nurse Harriet Barker; Oschner Home Health Care and nurse Jena Sharp. A private Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Masses at St. Peter Church or donations in her memory to Hospice of St. Tammany, 4410 Hwy. 22, Mandeville, LA 70471.
