Fannie Marie Garb Hall's Obituary
View Video Tribute Fannie Marie Garb Hall, loving wife of Robert “Buddy” Hall, joined the heavenly choir of angels on September 17, 2007. Born in 1935 to Blanche Gilchrist Garb and Sam Garb, she was a native of New Iberia, a graduate of New Iberia High School and a member of First Baptist Church. In 1952, she represented Iberia Parish in the Opelousas Jambalee. A graduate of the Northwestern State College School of Nursing, she worked as an operating room nurse, and then, after completing graduate school, as a nurse anesthetist. A generous hostess and extraordinary cook, Fannie welcomed all whom she encountered into her home and her life. She and her husband of 53 years, Buddy, lived in three foreign countries on three different continents, and in four U.S. cities, before returning home to Louisiana in 1992. They visited 51 countries, making friends the world over. The sheer number of friends they welcomed overseas and in their Colorado vacation home led their children to nickname their parents’ home ‘The Hall’s Happy Hostel.’ A cancer survivor since 1995, Fannie battled the reoccurrence of her disease with grace and strength, never complaining, always optimistic, and serving as a source of great comfort to others. She inspired her family and friends with her upbeat attitude and her unwavering faith. She loved holidays and summers spent in Vail with her children, grandchildren, and friends from home. She is survived by her children and son-in-laws, Alane (Otey) Lumpkin, Gail (Jerry) Quick, and Rob; her precious grandchildren, Trevor and Alexandra; her siblings and their spouses, Fain (Pat) Garb, Tommye Duncan, Carrol (Joe) Peery, and Blanche (Steve) Sibley; her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; and her aunts Ruby and Helen. She is preceded in heaven by her parents; mother- and father-in-law, Ella and Robert; brother-in-law Bill; and niece Diana Lois. Church visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church – Covington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the women’s scholarship fund of the P.E.O. Foundation, 105 Grand Chenier, Mandeville, LA 70471.
