Eve "Bebe" Taber Norris Stephenson's Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eve “Bebe” Taber Norris Stephenson on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Covington, Louisiana.
Bebe is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Louis Moore Stephenson, and her three children, whom she adored: James Norris Stephenson (Cheryl), Eve Taber Stephenson (Billy Van Ness) and Catherine Coyne Stephenson. She is also survived by six siblings: Elizabeth Goodspeed Henderson, Mecca Preston Hawkins, Susalee Norris Sasser, Eleanor Reid Rice, Donald Craik Goodspeed II and Samuel Rhea Preston III.
Bebe was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on November 9, 1941, to James Biscoe Norris of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Evelyn Saffold Taber of Montgomery, Alabama. She was the granddaughter of Evelyn Saffold Holt of Montgomery, Alabama, and the granddaughter of Colonel William Audley Taber of Winter Park, Florida.
She graduated from the Louise McGehee School in New Orleans and received a bachelor of science degree from Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. She also earned degrees from the University of New Orleans and Southern University in New Orleans.
Bebe had an extensive modeling career, and she worked as a stewardess for Delta Airlines for many years. She always had a deep sensitivity and innate responsiveness to the needs of others, especially those who were struggling with personal challenges. This led her to become a board-certified substance abuse counselor, an eating disorder professional and a nutritionist. In addition, she was a certified natural health professional. She was very successful in her work and had many grateful clients.
A devoted wife and an exceptional mother to her family, Bebe was also known for her inspiring words, compassionate spirit and random acts of kindness. She was often found delivering “surcies," as she called them (southern term for unexpected gift), to her neighbors, local grocery store clerks or anyone else she enjoyed being around. She loved to dance and sing as well as play the guitar and piano. Her favorite pastime was walking the Mandeville lakefront, where she would often go for her quiet time.
A memorial service will be held on May 20, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Chapel in Covington, Louisiana. A cremation service will follow in the Christ Episcopal Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Charleston Charity Dental Outreach, 3625 Azalea Drive N. Charleston, SC 29405.
