Eugene Leo Sullivan, Jr.'s Obituary
Eugene Leo Sullivan, Jr., 86, died April 15, 2010 in Matthews, N. C. while reminiscing of his wife, who passed days earlier. Raised in Bayside, Long Island, he resided in the Albany, NY and Covington, LA before retiring in North Carolina.
As a graduate of Manhattan College and NY Maritime College, Captain Sullivan could pilot any ship on the ocean. He enlisted in 1941 during WWII and served in the Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and Naval Military Sea Lift Command during his fifty year career, which included four war zones and many awards. He moved drill and jackup rigs and semi-submersibles. Gene was the son of Marguerite McGrath and Eugene L. Sullivan, of NYC.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia O’Grady, three brothers and one daughter. He is survived by daughter Doreen of Alaska and son “Chip” (ELS III) and three grandchildren, Kalley, Camryn, and Colby Sullivan of Virginia.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at St Gabriel’s Catholic Church and Red Rocks Café on Providence Rd in Charlotte, NC on May 5, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. His final resting place will be at a family plot in Madisonville, LA with arrangements by E. J. Fielding at a future date.
