Eugene T. Gregorchik's Obituary
Eugene “Gene” Gregorchik, age 79, of Madisonville, Louisiana, passed
away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026. He was born on October
4, 1946, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to John Gregorchik and Margaret
Jakovich Gregorchik, both of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sylvia Steadman
Gregorchik; his beloved daughter, Kelly Gregorchik; his stepsons Brad
Piediscalzo (Christina), Philip Piediscalzo (Renee), and Joey
Piediscalzo (Jenny); his grandchildren, Philip, Michel, Melia, Dawson,
Lucas, Joshua, and Eliana; and his great-granddaughter, Aryanna. He
is also survived by his siblings, Lawrence Gregorchik, Mary Ann
Bucior, Janet Mauro, Sharon Lehman, and Ann Marie Yuschick, along
with many extended family members and friends whose lives were
enriched by his kindness, strength, and sense of humor.
Determined and hardworking from an early age, Gene worked in the
steel mills during his college summers to pay his way through school.
He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the
University of Dayton and built a long and respected career as a
certified public accountant. It was during a work trip to Mandeville,
Louisiana, that Gene met Sylvia Steadman, his best friend and the love
of his life. Their meeting began a lifelong partnership rooted in
devotion, laughter, faith, and family.
Gene possessed an adventurous spirit that led him on many travels
over the years. Whether skiing, scuba diving, golfing, or visiting the
occasional casino, he embraced life with enthusiasm. A proud
Pittsburgh native, he remained an avid Steelers fan throughout his life
and rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his hometown team. He
also enjoyed fantasy football and the camaraderie and competition that
came with it, even if his teams did not always find success.
Even after retirement, Gene continued helping family and friends with
bookkeeping and accounting, sometimes humorously accepting
payment in the form of a bottle of Crown Royal. Affectionately known
as “Popsi” by his grandchildren, he was deeply loved for his quick wit,
steady humor, gentle spirit, and unwavering positive attitude. He was a
man of deep faith whose quiet presence often concealed remarkable
determination and tenacity. No matter the challenges he faced, Gene
met them with resilience and grace, repeatedly defying the odds
placed before him. To know Gene was to know loyalty, generosity, and
deep love for family and friends. He will be deeply mourned by his
devoted wife, remembered by many, and forever missed by all whose
lives were touched by his kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to
