I only knew Gene when we were teenagers at LRHS and never saw him again after graduation night in May 1951. I called him at his home several years ago and
urged him to attend our high school class reunion being planned at that time but his health would not permit travel to Little Rock. Gene was so much fun to be with &
always "game" for whatever the group had planned for the day. My heart goes out
to his family at this time of their loss.

Luci and I learned of Gene's passing through the Univ. of Ark. publication we received yesterday. Our sympathies are with Doris and Anne as we know what a tremendous loss they have suffered. Gene, my brother, Dick Gladden and I were together through many years at the 2nd Baptist Church in Little Rock. We played on softball and basketball teams for a lot of years prior to departing for college. Gene and I roomed together in Fayetteville, 1952-1953, trying to subside on chili and cokes and saving enough change to keep his 10 ton 4dr Studebaker running along with purchasing anti-freeze for my 1948 Jeep Willys. He was the mainstay in our high school gang. I was glad that I got to visit with him again over the last number of years following our LRHS reunion. He was the brightest of us but always humble. A true gentleman.

Uncle Gene, You will be missed by all of us who knew you. Your gentle spirit and witty humor made you such a likeable person. You were an impressionable person and influenced my early adult decisions, inspiring me to follow my dreams. After Katrina, we all splintered about and distance has separated us physically but my heart will always cherish those great moments we shared on State Street. My reference with Gene and Doris go back to his days at Maryland Cas. where we were employed. I can not imagine a nicer guy than Gene, he will surely be missed by all.

The Good Lord has one of his most awesome creations now. Mr. Gene treated me like a daughter for the past 45 years. He always said I was his girlfriend. When I was younger and my own Dad couldn't make it to a Father Daughter pancake breakfast at Valencia, Mr. Gene filled in. I wish I had had more pancake breakfasts with him. I was lucky to have such a fabulous person in my life. I love you and miss you and will one day see you again.
