Ernest Souhlas' Obituary
Ernest Nicholas Souhlas passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the age of 75.
Beloved husband of Paula Ann Souhlas. Loving father of Diane Murphy (Mark), Ernest “Nickie” Souhlas, Jr., Mark Souhlas, Joseph Stange (Kimberly) and Michael Stange (Christie). Son of the late Hazel Callahan Souhlas and Nicholas Ernest Souhlas. Brother of Jane Souhlas Weber, Joseph Souhlas (Becky), Carolyn Souhlas and the late Una Mae Souhlas Baragona. He was survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ernie graduated from Jesuit High School, LSU Baton Rouge and obtained his law degree from Loyola Law School. He served in the Louisiana Air National Guard for more than 30 years, and retired as a Major. He was the Information Officer and Jag Officer for the 159th TAC Fighter Group. He was a well known and successful maritime attorney in the New Orleans area, who represented many Jones Act seaman, and was known affectionately in the legal community as "Ernie the Attorney". His hobbies were hunting, restoring antique cars and raising cattle on the "Easy E Ranch" in Folsom, LA.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 12:00 noon with visitation at church on Friday from 9:30 AM until Mass time.
Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery #3, New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Souhlas to be made to the Covington Food Bank, 840 N. Columbia St., Covington, LA 70433.
