I AM RETIRED FROM ETHYL CORP ENGR DEPT..FIRST MET DEE IN LSU CLASS ABOUT '47, THEN DURING SERVICE WITH EYHYL. I WAS AT THE GREEK PLANT DURING START UP SO HAD MUCH CONTACT WITH HIM THEN.LAST MET WITH HE & MRS 'DEE' ABOUT '93,'94 WHEN THEY ATTENDED ST JOSEPH CATHERAL IN BR . BEST WISHES TO MRS 'DEE' AND FAMILY.
Dear Alida and Family, It was dreadful to hear of Dee's passing. The words 'gentleman', 'gallant', and 'generous' epitomized his character. My father worked for Ethyl Corporation in Greece, and we grew to love Dee and Alida there.
When we were new and disoriented in Greece; or when a brother was badly injured and hospitalized for months; or when I needed help in college, 5,000 miles from my family, Dee and you, Alida, were always there, selflessly helping us get through life's challenges without regard to the demands on your time. At the end, you held our hands through my mother's funeral.
Dee's life is a kind example to all of us of what it means to walk with Christ in this life. Now we know, Dee walks with Him in the next life forever.
Best regards, Duane Downey
Yesterday I learned of Mr. Diedrich's passing. I am the third son of Robert Downey, who worked with Mr. Diedrich in Thessaloniki, Greece. My family has the fondest memories of him and his wife Alida. Their kindness and generosity and friendliness were deeply appreciated by all of us.
When I returned to Baton Rouge on visits many years later, it was a great pleasure to spend time with Dee and Alida. You can be proud to have had a man of such warmth and character in your family. May he live on in your memories.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Elmo was my second cousin, although I really never had a chance to know him. My Mother, Isabell Fontan and his Mother Eleanor were first cousins. I remeber the many times that we visited her and her sisters in the Covington area. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Patricia Weaver Comeaux
