Ellen McCune Cartier's Obituary
Ellen McCune Cartier passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Lacombe, LA at the age of 82. She was born on March 14, 1935 in New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her father, Emmett David McCune and, her mother, Mary Ellen Branagan McCune. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Dominican High School, class of 1953. She also graduated from Soule Business College. Ellen was employed by Pan American Life Insurance and the New Orleans Item newspaper until she became a mother and fulltime homemaker.
Ellen was married to her beloved husband, Roy Anthony Cartier, for 60 years. She was the loving mother of James L. Cartier (Michelle), Ronald D. Cartier, Patricia C. Raborn (Dean), Colleen A. Cartier, Daniel A. Cartier, and Randall M. Cartier. Ellen will be dearly missed by her seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Mary M. Molaison. She is also survived by a nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ellen was a resident of Mandeville, LA for over 50 years. In her later years, she was a courier for attorney Edward Deano and a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer in St. Tammany Parish looking out for the best interests of foster children. Ellen will be remembered as a fun loving person who loved family gatherings, dancing, traveling, and dining out. She also loved Mardi Gras, Carnival Balls, and parades, and loved going to LSU football games. Ellen was an active room mother for all of her children when they attended Our Lady of the Lake Grammar School in Mandeville, LA. She was a member of the Altar Society of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was the head usher, making sure all Masses had ushers.
The family wants to thank the North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Lacombe Nursing Center, and Harmony Hospice for exceptional care and compassion during her illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 12:00 Noon with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow the service at Mandeville City Mausoleum, Mandeville, LA.
