Elizabeth Ann Rush's Obituary
Dr. Elizabeth Ann Rush passed from this life while surrounded by her family and began experiencing eternity on November 13, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. Ann was born on July 9, 1935, in Fairfield, Illinois to Cassius Edgar Rush, Jr. and Lucy Pauline Roy Rush. She was raised in Bonita Springs, Florida. She earned her medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine where she was one of only two women in her class. She was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Ann was board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. She was a Trainee in Clinical Investigation at Oak Ridge Associated University. She was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. She was a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. She was a member of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Internal Medicine.
Ann educated medical students and residents while serving on the faculty of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine where she was considered by her colleagues and students to be a trailblazer and legend for helping women gain access to the medical profession.
Ann’s Christian faith and love for family ran deep, her friendships were enduring, and her loyalty to all things for the University of Tennessee Volunteers never wavered.
Ann was a long time resident of Seymour and Knoxville, TN before moving to Covington, LA. Ann is survived by her niece, Kristen Rush Trosclair (Donald Trosclair), her nephew, Richard E. Rush, Jr. (Connie Rush), her great-nieces, Allana Rush Ricks (Matt Ricks), Gabrielle Corine Trosclair, and Kayla Ann Rush as well as two great-great-nephews and two great-great-nieces. She also leaves behind a host of dear friends and extended family who will forever remember her warmth, generosity, and grace. She is predeceased by her mother and father, her brother, Richard E. Rush, Sr. and her great-nephew, Ashton Michael Trosclair.
A celebration of her life will be held after interment.
