Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Cameron Dominguez's Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Cameron Dominguez was born on October 7, 1935, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Elbert and Anna Grace Cameron. She passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the home of her daughter Donna. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard E. Dominguez. She is survived by her eight children; Catherine, David, Brenda, Donna, Daniel, Kia, Jeffrey and Kerry; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren all of whom affectionately call her Boop.
Once her youngest child was in school, she embarked on a professional career that started in the decorator’s studio at Sears. Her journey would expand to include being the personal assistant to Gabe Hausemann at Hausemann's Jewelers, an outside sales associate to the Yellow Pages (when it was in its heyday), and ended her Southshore career at Wurzburg Bros. as their office manager. It was during this time she was involved with the American Business Women's Association, awarded Member of the Year, and went on the serve as President.
She and Richard moved to the Northshore in 1988. After settling into what should have been her retirement, she was hired as assistant to the President of St. Joseph Seminary College, Fr. Gregory Boquet, who is now Abbott. She retired shortly after Richard's death and then she enrolled at Southeastern University, where she took great joy and pride in being "the old lady in the class". Into her late 80's, she worked part time at Kohl's and JC Penney because she liked seeing people and loved the employee discount. As the Matriarch of this extensive clan, she will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Joseph Abbey Retreat Center, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, LA 70457 on Thursday, July 9 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10 until mass. There will be a reception following mass in the Retreat Center.
