Elizabeth "Betty" Burns Brown's Obituary
Elizabeth “Betty” Burns Brown passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by her family in the home they all built together. Born in New Orleans on October 7, 1949, Betty lived a life rooted in faith, service to others, and deep love for animals and those around her.
She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy and Southeastern Louisiana University, where she was a proud member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Betty devoted her professional life to serving others as a Speech Pathologist for St. Tammany Parish Schools, where she helped countless children find their voice and confidence.
Betty was the beloved wife of 54 years to Thomas G. Brown and a devoted mother to Nikki Brown (Josh), Brittany Hanley (Peter), Blakely Brown, Noëlle Vescio (Josh), and Blaire Stroemple (Justin). Her greatest joy was her family, and she was a proud and loving grandmother to ten grandchildren, Lila, Adair, Maeve, Tripp, Petra, Max, Ellen, Annie, Joey and Sonny, who brought her endless happiness. She is also survived by her brother, Robert J. Burns and was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and James Burns.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Betty attended Mass daily, finding strength, peace, and purpose in her faith. Her beliefs guided her actions and her generosity. She was an animal lover and volunteer who found loving homes for many pets, a devoted patron of the library and friend to its regulars, a spiritual guide to many and a lifelong learner. In retirement, she found great joy in serving her church community, as well as in learning yoga, tai chi, and line dancing, embracing each season of life with grace and enthusiasm. She taught her grandchildren that you can always learn new things and have fun dancing along the way.
Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her, loved her, and prayed with her. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering faith leave a lasting legacy.
