Elizabeth (Betsy) Lauve Maxwell's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betsy) Lauve Maxwell passed away peacefully at her home in Mandeville on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Betsy was a native of New Orleans, and a proud resident of Mandeville and Covington for over 51 Years. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Jackson, MS. and attended Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans. She earned her B.S.N., and enjoyed a successful career as a registered nurse.
Betsy was a loving and compassionate wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was an avid gardener and continued her education, becoming a Master Gardener. She was also a member of the Town and Country Garden Club. Betsy was active in the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church Alter Society. She was honored with “The Order of St.Louis IX” Award, established to honor laypersons who have contributed their time and talents to the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Lauve and Merle Mayhall Lauve, Her siblings, John Howard Lauve, Mildred Lauve Jordan, and James E. Lauve, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James E. “Jim” Maxwell, Her children Sharon Maxwell Dearing (Brian), and James E “Jimmy” Maxwell, JR. (Malou) and her six grandchildren, Emily Dearing, Max Dearing (Codi), David Dearing, Samantha Maxwell Spansel (Christian), Caroline Maxwell Tarbell (Andrew), and Catherine Maxwell Villars (Bradley) and six great grandchildren, Ann Douglas, Wells, Ash, Beau, Blake and James. She is also survived by her 3 siblings, Gary Lauve (Alice), Davis Lauve (Jane) and Richard Lauve (Janie) and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere and deep gratitude to the sitters that cared for Betsy during these last few months - Pat, Tonie, Linda, Antryion, Annie and Doris. Also thank you to the team of nurses at Compassus Hospice - Kim, Sarah and Monica.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 12:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until mass time at the church. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Covington, LA.
