Elizabeth "Betsy" Franklin Burg's Obituary
Elizabeth “Betsy” Franklin Burg passed away on January 4, 2015 at the age of 83. She was born on January 8, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Bess Turner and Charles Benjamin Franklin. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis John Pershing Burg, loving mother of Charlie Burg (Stephanie), Meg Burg Perry (Jim), Roger Burg (Wendy), and Julie Burg Hughs (Semmes), grandmother to Jennifer Perry Lepine, Nicholas Perry, Elizabeth Hughs, Tommy Hughs, Catherine Hughs, Chase Burg, Zoe Burg, Wyatt Burg, and Josiah Burg, sister of Meg Franklin and the late Benjamin Barnum Franklin, aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School in New Orleans, Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and Louisiana State University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development from Tulane University. She taught kindergarten and religion at several New Orleans area schools. She also worked at Ochsner Clinic in the Child Development Center.
She was active with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of New Orleans where she taught “Life in the Spirit” seminars for numerous years. She was an active member of St. Peter Parish in Covington where she was the Parish Librarian and participated in various prayer groups and bible studies in the Parish. She was a Third Order Oblate of St. Benedict and also active with Magnificat Ministry to Catholic Women. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
The loves of her life were books, trees, her very devoted late husband, her children, and her grandchildren. Her love of trees lured her to move to beautiful Covington, and her love of books and family led her to author two books – Midlife Crisis and Midlife Triumph.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 12:00 PM. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM until Mass time. Interment will immediately follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, masses preferred.
