Elaine LaHodney Maddalozzo? What is an ELM? To me her last name implied a stocky dark haired dark eyed woman in an apron smelling of garlic. Boy was I surprised. When I first met her, I was totally blown away to find a tall beautiful willowy long limb elegant vivacious blue eyed woman. Wow!
Her world changed and so did mine when I was accepted (rather passed the Maddalozzo bone density test). My teeth and bones had to be checked out to make sure I was of good stock! I passed because in 1963 she entered a new world as a mother-in-law. In 1966 she entered another new world as a ‘Nonna’ to her first grandchild, Stephen Paul. Then in 1970 she was blessed with a granddaughter, Susan Joy, who was born with big blue eyes like hers. She was proud of the blue eyes.
She opened my world - azagio... mostaccioli...knit/purl….Irish linens…fine English bone china…crystal cut knife holders…Daniel Green’s…chiante... poker...panettone...Edward Cayce…homemade noodles…poppyseed coffee cakes…pinocle…chicken and polenta…and her love for God. She was not the typical stereotype mother-in-law… she loved me! and I loved her! Wow!
Her heart and soul will live with me forever.
God Bless you, Nonna Linda Maddalozzo
