Don, sorry to about your Dad.
My deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Your father holds a special place in my heart. Your mom and dad were SO good and great friends to my grandparents (Mary and Ben Bicknell).
I have many memories of going to dinner, going to their house and just hanging out with them at my "Mimi and Pappy's". He was always the joke teller, usually they were covering my ears while the jokes were being told!
Thinking of you all, Stacy Bonewitz
WE SHARE YOUR GRIEF ON THE LOSS OF OUR FRIEND AND THE LORD'S SERVANT. WE LOVED ED BARKSDALE.HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. HIS HUMOR AND HIS LOVE OF FUMCC WAS FELT BY ALL.
Reverend Barksdale was very special to us at Wesley Chapel Methodist in Ponchatoula. He chistened our child Luke Yoes who just made 11 years old at his last service at Wesley Chapel in 1995. We just saw him in September at Homecoming. He will be sadly missed by many. Sincerely, The Yoes
Don, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. Ed and Mattie Barksdale had a great influence on my life in Oakdale in the early "50's. I was a freshman in high school when ya'll moved to New Orleans. I loved your Mom and Dad. My heart was broken when they left in '55. They are the reason I am a Methodist today. They and the girls lured me away from the Baptist church. Perry Doughety, Mary Nan Stanley, Jenny Lynch, Mary Ellen Kennedy, Judy Boyer, just to name a few. We had so much fun when we would go on retreats with Mattie and Ed.
And, of course, your Mom and Dad were kind enough to let Hollis live with ya'll and complete his education at Tulane. How thankful we were for that.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. How blessed you were to have parents like Mattie and Ed Barksdale. God bless you and yours.
