Edward "Buster" Loynell Mizell's Obituary
Edward L. “Buster” Mizell of Folsom, Louisiana passed away on August 23, 2009 surrounded by his family and friends. A life resident of Folsom, LA, he was born on January 5, 1937 to the late Elzie V. “Doc” and Louise Manton Mizell and for 46 years was the loving and devoted husband of Juanita Fruge’ Mizell. Buster was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline McKee. He is survived by one son, Kevin Mizell (Jenny); five daughters: Brenda Mizell Thompson (Mike), Melissa Mizell Triay (Paul), Bridget Mizell Jenkins (Michael), Kimberly L. Mizell, and Renee’ Mizell North (Kendall); and eleven grandchildren: Josh Mizell (Lindsey) and Katie Mizell, Kayla Thompson Cardinale (Kerry), Matti, Claire, Cameron, Seth, and Chase Triay, Jessica Jenkins, Bailey Smith, and Avery North. He is also survived by three brothers: Clarence Mizell (Leatte), Fred Mizell (Carmen), and David Mizell (Mary).
Buster and Juanita owned and operated Green Thumb Nursery in Folsom for 43 years. Buster was an active member of the MISSLARK Nurserymen’s Association and the Louisiana Camellia Association. He was instrumental in helping many St. Tammany youth become involved in the Jr. Livestock Program. He served as both President and as a board member of the St. Tammany Parish Fair Association and the St. Tammany Parish Jr. Livestock Fund. He was the founder of the Jr. Bucket Calf Program and was honored by having the St. Tammany Parish Fair dedicated to him and his many years of service to the association. In addition, he was a lifelong supporter of the Folsom Recreation Youth Program, having coached and sponsored youth for many years.
Buster touched many lives during his walk in life and will be deeply missed by all. His family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital for their unsurpassed care and compassion given to them and Buster during their most difficult time. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the St. Tammany Parish Jr. Livestock Show Fund (P.O. 3194, Covington, LA 70433).
A wake is scheduled from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church, 14278 Hwy 1077, Folsom, LA 70437. Visiting hours at the church will begin at 9:30am with funeral services to begin at 11:00am.
