Edmund John Murphy's Obituary
We are so sad to announce that Edmund John Murphy died at the age of 78 years just shy of his 79th birthday. He was known as Ed to most and Eddie, Ted, and Paw Paw to a select few. Ed was born to John and Inez Murphy and raised in Jefferson Parish. He lost his wife, Pamela L. Murphy, in 2006. He moved to Covington and was lucky to find love again late in life with Marylou Gordon.
Ed held degrees from De La Salle High School and Nicholls State University. He was a dedicated businessman having worked at RJ Marchand, Bengal Chemicals, and Fantec to name a few. Ed was an avid reader, hopeless romantic, and gentleman to his core. He was loved by all who met him for his big heart, abundant laughter, and countless jokes. He loved dancing and cooking - a true Louisiana boy.
Ed was and will always be loved by his daughter, Molly Murphy Wittig, son-in-law, Alex Wittig, grandson, Vaughn Wittig, fiancée, Marylou Gordon, sister, Jude Linden and extended family and friends. We know wherever he is; he will be enjoying at least 2 dozen oysters and a whiskey to wash it down. He will be missed.
“Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears
But laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you.
‘Twas heaven to be here with you.”
-Isla Pascal Richardson
