Earnest L. "Red" Sims' Obituary
Earnest L. “Red” Sims died on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Lacombe Nursing Home.
Born December 22, 1933 in Rainelle, West Virginia to Helen and Jud Sims. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Nellie Steinhauer Sims. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a 5th generation Jehovah’s Witness and served his God Jehovah faithfully all his life. He was a man of both physical and mental interests and pursuits – he worked as a carpenter, which he was very skilled at, enjoyed the outdoors, working on his tractor, making a garden and planting fruit trees (his “orchard”). He also had a keen interest in history, such as the Civil War and World War 2, and how it changed the world. He was well read in the Bible and Bible history. His brother called him the “brain” of the family. When he married Nellie, her family (including brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews) became his family, and he was always there to give a helping hand in practical ways to anyone in the family who needed it. He loved to laugh and to tell jokes and funny stories. He was well loved by everyone in his family, as being good, reliable, generous and helpful. His kind and generous spirit was also appreciated by the staff at Lacombe Nursing Home, where he lived for the past 8 years. He had a well lived life, an outstanding spirit of kindness and helpfulness, and his family looks forward to seeing him again in the resurrection.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. to service time. Interment will be at Willie Lee Cemetery in Folsom, LA.
