Dottie S. Keating's Obituary
Dottie Mae Schmidt Keating, age 95, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025. She was born on January 6, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She is survived by her children, Charlotte Diane Keating Joiner (Herbert “Herbie”), Linda Gail Keating Fussell (Glenn), Rodney Uriah Keating (Karen), and Randall Tyrone Keating (Leslie); grandchildren, Joshua Joiner (Aukse), Justin Joiner (Allison), Jeffry Joiner (Brittany), Christopher “Chris” Fussell (Brittany), Alicia Fussell Hesson (Darrick), Tyler Keating (Ashley), Lauren Keating Barrosse (Randy), Amanda Keating Garner, and Sarah Keating; 20 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, William “R.T.” Keating; her parents, John Cornelius Schmidt and Claira Harris Schmidt; brothers, John Leonard Schmidt, Joseph Cornelius Schmidt, and David Henry Schmidt; and a grandson-in-law, Matt Garner.
Dottie attended Sophia B. Wright High School in New Orleans and worked as an assistant dietician for St. Tammany Parish Hospital for over 40 years until her retirement in 2011. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Keating may be made to the meal ministries of New Zion Baptist Church, Fitzgerald Methodist Church, or St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 12:00 PM at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Baptist Church Road, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
