Dorothy Jean Rowe's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Rowe, aged 96, passed away quietly of natural causes, entering her Heavenly rest on Monday, August 12, 2024.
She was born in Wills Point, TX, May 7, 1928, but after marriage to Eugene W. Rowe of Houston, TX in March of 1948, she spent most of her life calling New Orleans, LA her home.
In her latter years, though retiring happily across Lake Pontchartrain to the North Shore’s Mandeville community, she continued to keep the culture and fond memories of ‘old’ New Orleans dear to her heart. However, she never forsook her Texas roots, keeping close the extended Goode and Rowe families, visiting as often as possible well into her eighties the many relatives and friends who lived across that state.
It has been said that wherever Jean went, whether it be in her professional career as “Mrs. Rowe”, community service as “Miss Jean”, or family life as “Jean”, “Mom” or “Nana”, she brought light, laughter and love into her role.
Always showering gifts upon family and friends alike, she was well known for the gifts of respect and kindness showered upon all she encountered. Jean’s life will be most readily remembered as having been exemplary of self-sacrifice for the good of others—her own generous version of keeping The Golden Rule. As such, she will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by: Children, Robert E. Rowe, Linda J. Oldacre (Joe) and Scott E. Rowe (Leslie): Grandchildren, Molly Rowe, Adam Oldacre (Christina), Elizabeth Oldacre, Sierra Rowe, Ryker Rowe and Cheyenne Rowe; Great-grandchildren Jacob Oldacre, Olivia Oldacre and Louise-Amelia Bresnitz; “Honorary daughter” Kim Jourdan Lomonaco (Ronnie); many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floy Parker Goode and James H. Goode; siblings Van D. Hubbard (Mary), Harlan Goode (Inez), Mildred Goode Green (Frank) and Lela Goode Duncan (Ben). Also preceding her in death was her Husband, Eugene, and Grandson, William Rowe.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean may be made to Lakeview Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary -- Attn: Tische Bodet, 95 Judge Tanner Blvd., Covington, LA 70433. Jean was a long-time volunteer who served and helped continually raise funds for local charities.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington LA 70433 on Saturday. September 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM with visitation on that Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM. The story of her extraordinary life will be shared and celebrated there.
