Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Severson's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Severson (Dottie) passed away on the evening of March 27, 2021. She was 96 years old at the time of her passing. Born in Burbank, California on December 24, 1924, Dottie lived a rich and full life. She was a loving wife and mother, a skilled and accomplished artist, a good friend, a heck of a bridge player, and a dedicated sponsor and member of the St. Tammany Art Association.
She was married to the late John L. Severson, an executive with Amoco, who predeceased her in 1996, and they traveled and lived throughout the United States. She had four children: Nancy Jo Severson (Beth); Patricia Severson Greene (John); James Christen Severson (Marian); and Kevin John Severson (Tammy- deceased). She had eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren (with the eleventh on the way).
Dottie was an amazing person who was always kind and was full of wonderful stories. She was a member of the "Greatest Generation" and worked as a Quality Control officer at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Long Beach, CA during World War II. She graduated with a degree in Art from Northwestern University, and pursued her art throughout her life as an artist, teacher, and sponsor. She was instrumental in assisting the St. Tammany Art Association with the acquisition of their building in Covington, LA.
Dottie loved politics, art, literature, travel, friends, but, most of all, she loved her family. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. A small, private memorial service will be held at her beloved cabin in Northwest Wisconsin at a later date. Should you wish to remember her, it is requested that a donation be made in her memory to the St. Tammany Art Association.
