Donis Inell Jourdan Jenkins' Obituary
Donis Inell Jourdan Jenkins, age 101, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was born on January 5, 1923, in New Orleans, Louisiana and relocated to Folsom when she was 5 years old.
She is survived by her son Lee Roy Jenkins, Jr. and wife Eva, grandchildren, Donna Jenkins Pause (Mike), Leigh Jenkins Hardy (Mark), Bill Jenkins (Stephanie), Bob Jenkins, Cassie Jenkins and Corte Jenkins; thirteen great grandchildren: Rebecca Anne Hebert (Doni), Paul Leon Hebert, Jr. (Heather), Emily Hebert Brimanson (David), Jonathan Mark Hardy II (Isa), Julian Ross Hardy (Jen), Alexa Hardy Eades (Ryan), William Alonza Hardy (Erica), Alaina Grace Hardy, Lauren Palliser Robertson (Matt), Avery Elise Jenkins, William Emery Jenkins, Jr., Madelaine Megan Jenkins, and Kennedy Rayne Koepp. She is also survived by 15 great, great grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Shirley Jourdan Gottschalk Watkins and James Bryant “J.B.” Jourdan, and her daughters-in law Eva Cummings Jenkins and Karen Foil Jenkins, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Roy Jenkins, Sr.; her son, Raymond Lee Jenkins (Karen), and great, great grandson, Campbell Perry Hebert. Also preceded in death by her parents, William Ellis Jourdan, Sr. and Mamie Estelle Willie Jourdan; siblings, William Ellis Jourdan, Jr. , Charles Strickland Jourdan, Arleen Jourdan Coltora, Estelle Jourdan Hrivnak, and Lawrence “Cotton” Jourdan.
She was employed as an occupational therapist for 30 years at Southeast Louisiana Hospital and retired in 1982. After retiring, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital for 17 years. She enjoyed serving in various offices in multiple associations such as the Alpha House Day Center, West St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary, and the St. Tammany Art Association. In 2011-2012, she chaired the Cleanest City Contest and served as the Executive Board Chairman. She worked diligently for the Covington Cemetery Fence project and the organization was successful at completing the needed fencing. She was also a member of the Greater Covington Civic Organization. A long standing member of the Business and Professional Women, she served as President and was also named Woman of the Year. She has held every office and board position and was chairman of 30 committees in the Covington Garden Club.
During her service with the St. Tammany Parish Fair Association, she was director of the Miss St. Tammany and Jr. Miss St. Tammany beauty pageants.
Donis is a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington where she served on the building committee and sang in the choir. She was an active participant in her church activities and Sunday school and is one of the longest attending members.
In her spare time, she loved sewing, particularly quilting. She was also passionate about gardening, flower arranging, and crafting. Her fruits and vegetables were always canned and distributed to friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in the Garden of Pines Mausoleum, 1400 N Columbia Street, Covington, Louisiana.
