Donald George Fontan's Obituary
Donald G. Fontan passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 in Covington, LA. He was born on July 27, 1936 in Covington, LA to the late Joseph B. Fontan and Marguerite C. Becker Fontan.
Don was the beloved husband of Joy Theriot Fontan for 60 years. He was the loving father of Timothy Fontan (Felicia), Julie Fontan Malbrough (Troy), Eric Fontan, Melinda Fontan Webb (David), and William “Bill” Fontan (Kimberly). Don was the proud grandfather of Wesley Fontan, Destini Malbrough, Dylan Malbrough, Adrienne Fontan, Kailey Fontan, Jonathan Fontan, Jessica Webb Runyon (James “Matt”), Christopher Webb (Jené), Joshua Fontan, Rachel Fontan, Luke Fontan, and Nathan Fontan. He was the great-grandfather of 7 great-grandchildren. Don was the brother of Betty Gayle Fontan Huval and the late Joseph Fontan, Jr. He will be dearly missed by all whom knew him.
Don graduated from St. Paul’s School, Covington, LA in 1955 where he ran track and played baseball and basketball. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served for 4 years. Following his military service, Don joined his father and uncle in the family business, Fontan-Becker Building Specialties where he worked until he retired in 1985. Don stayed active in his retirement with carpentry, fishing, archery, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 3:00 PM with Visitation from 1:30 PM until Mass time. Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
