Donald Cleveland Douglas, Jr. also known as, “Bubby”, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 22, 1966, and passed peacefully at home on June 21, 2023. Bubby was a loving father and survived by his four children: Michelle Martin Douglas Michaelis (John), Madison Martin Douglas, Donald Cleveland Douglas, III also known as, “Beau”, and Mary Margaret Couvillion Douglas. He was an adoring grandfather to James and Mary Katherine Michaelis. He was a loyal brother to Donna Doyle (Micah), Michelle Davis (Forrest), and Julie Ingrassia (Bryan), Robin Vadell Majorca (Allen) and preceded in death by brother, Cole Vadell. Bubby was also a devoted son of Beverly and Gary Vadell. Additionally, he was a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as a nephew to several aunts and uncles and a cousin to many.
Bubby was a proud graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School. He then attended University of New Orleans, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1990. His favorite author was John Milton. Bubby was also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He furthered his education and graduated from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1993, where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and Senior Class President. Following graduation, he worked as a law clerk in Monroe, LA to two United States District Judges before entering private practice. He practiced law for thirty years and at the time of his passing, he was an Of Counsel attorney with Riess LeMieux in New Orleans, where he loved getting up every day and going into the city for work. At Riess LeMieux, he predominantly practiced construction, contract, employment, and business law.
Outside of his professional life, Bubby was a true wildlife conservationist. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and kayaker who loved everything about the outdoors. Whether it was birdwatching from his backyard or tending to his beloved beehives and harvesting the most delicious honey, he was at his happiest surrounded by nature. Furthermore, at the age of 48 he trained rigorously and became an Ironman Finisher in Houston, TX along with his best friend, Eric. Bubby was also an expert dog trainer without any expert instruction, who trained his family’s two beloved border collies, Mia and Sadie Rose, who preceded him in death. Both completely adored him and brought immeasurable joy to the Douglas household throughout the years. Bubby will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
