Dennis Vincent McCloskey's Obituary
Dennis Vincent McCloskey passed away at home on Wednesday, December 26, 2007. He was born November 26, 1936 in New Orleans to the late Mildred Lambert and John Francis McCloskey and has been a resident of Folsom since 1960.
He is the beloved husband of Blanche Edge McCloskey; father of Blanche DeLeta McCloskey and Katherine Edge McCloskey, both of New Orleans, and Kelly McCloskey Duffy of Pass Christian, MS. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Thomas Anderson Duffy, and grandson, Thomas Anderson Duffy, Jr. of Pass Christian, MS as well as his sister, Elinor McCloskey Frantz. He is the brother of the late John Francis McCloskey, Jr.
Mr. McCloskey was a dedicated parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom where he served as lector and commentator; he was a member of the Sovereign Order of Malta. He was the president and founder of Windmill Nurseries, Inc. He was a founder of Southeast Louisiana Nurserymen’s Association and served on the Board of Directors and as President of Louisiana Nurserymen’s Association, Southern Nurserymen’s Association, and American Association of Nurserymen. He was a founder and Director Emeritus of Resource Bank. Mr. McCloskey was a graduate of Holy Name, De La Salle High School, and Louisiana State University, where he established four perpetual academic scholarships. Delta Kappa Epsilon and Louisiana State University both honored him with Outstanding Alumnus awards Louisiana Nurserymen’s Association named him Outstanding Nurseryman of the Year and awarded him the James A. Foret Award of Merit; Southern Nurserymen’s Association awarded him their highest honor, the Slater A. Wight Award. He was a member of several Carnival organizations.
Family and friends are invited to visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom at 9:30 AM and funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2007.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Abbey cemetery.
