Denise was one of my very first friends here when I moved to New Orleans. She welcomed me with open arms and tried to make my move here easier. We shared a shotgun together and my husband, Tom worked with her. She was fun, witty, interesting, warm and intelligent. We shared many things together, earrings and the love of jewelry, Jazz Festival and the wood business among many other things.
I will never forget how she was such a special friend to so many. She struggled with her health issues and I just hated this for her. Denise, you died too early. God was ready for you upstairs so you and Becky could have a ball. I will never forget you and always keep you in my heart Miss Sassy!

Denise and I were classmates at SSA and roommates at LSU. After I moved to Maryland, we’d lose touch off and on but when it mattered, she was there (my MD wedding, my father’s Nola memorial etc). We could lock eyes from a distance and a sassy smirk would form on both faces as if no time had passed. I will be forever grateful for a long distance conversation we had shortly before her scary surgery. As usual, that conversation ended in laughter. I’ll miss her wonderful wit, priceless stories, sass and solid friendship always.

Devastated ~ there are just no words to describe the hole in my soul. There are way too many memories to pick one to share. Denise was a true friend for 40 years; genuine, hysterical, spontaneous, gracious, loving, loyal, fighter, a gem! To hear her voice and laugh again would be such a gift. My love and prayers go out to Denise's family and friends. I hate to end this message. It feels so final. I love you, Denise!

My best friend!!! I met Denise the first week she moved to Covington. Mary Lee and my mom Dottie grew up together in Donaldsonville. Her Aunt Glenda Gilmore was my favorite teacher and she introduced us a few weeks before our Freshman year at SSA. I can't imagine a world without Denise's great smile, laugh and love of life!!!
