Deloris Ruth LeJeune O'Donnell's Obituary
On Saturday night, December 24, 2022, Deloris Ruth LeJeune O’Donnell, age 99, was called to heaven by her Lord and Savior so she could have eternal peace. She was surrounded by her family at the time. She was born in New Orleans, LA on November 26, 1923 to Moses LeJeune and Ruth April LeJeune.
Deloris is survived by her son, Daryl M. O’Donnell and his wife, Barbara Greene O’Donnell; and her grandchildren, Dana O’Donnell Pipkin (Shane), Jeffrey Mark (Holly), Gregory John (April) and Katherine “Katie” O’Donnell. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren, Paisley Renee O’Donnell, Kinley Elizabeth O’Donnell, Hannah Katherine Pipkin, Chase Wilson Pipkin and Brooks Allen O’Donnell.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, August C. Reeder; and husband of 66 years, Edward Mark O’Donnell.
Deloris was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of the Northshore area for the past 45 years. She was a graduate of Sophie B. Wright High School Class of 1940. She retired from Orleans Parish School Board having served 23 years as secretary at McDonough #7 Elementary School. After retirement she volunteered at Mandeville Elementary School and Lake Harbor Middle School. In 2003 she was recognized as the Grandparent of the Year at Mandeville Elementary School. She was also a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Deloris enjoyed volunteering at the church where she would read to the 3 and 4 year old students who attended the St. Timothy preschool. She also enjoyed her time with the church knitting group. It brought her great joy to create knitted caps for patients that were suffering from cancer.
Deloris was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking care of her yard to include her lemon trees. She would share her harvest with so many of her neighbors and would delight in the conversation that would follow. She also enjoyed feeding the birds in her backyard that were so thankful to her for the food she provided. However, her true passion was spending time with her loving family and friends. When she was surrounded by her great-grandchildren she would have a never ending smile on her face. Deloris was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of her cherished friends and family until they meet her again.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and love provided by Concerned Care Hospice, especially Nicki and Jancy. Also, the family would like to thank the Memory Care North staff of St. Anthony’s Garden who was all so kind and loving to Deloris.
