Debra Trom Sands' Obituary
Debra Trom Sands, 69, of Covington, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Debbie was born in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota on September 11, 1954 to June and Richard Trom. Deb was one of ten children and grew up on the family farm. In 1972, she graduated from Blooming Prairie High School where she was crowned Homecoming Queen of her class. Shortly after that, she was raising her two daughters all while working full time and pursuing her college degree. In her endless pursuit to provide the best for her daughters, Debbie graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Computer Information Systems.
Deb met the love of her life, Henry Sands, while working for ALCOA in Evansville, Indiana in 1986. They would move to Louisiana with her daughters and eventually marry in Las Vegas. Just short of twenty years together, Henry unexpectedly passed away, and Deb’s heart was broken. While trying to navigate life without her husband, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family near the beautiful lakes of Minnesota, gardening, and experiencing all the milestones with her grandchildren. Debbie is survived by her daughter Lisa (Matt) Reitzell of Mandeville, LA and Amanda (Stephen) Mott of Covington, LA; her grandchildren, Josie and Kylie Reitzell and Justin and Alex Mott; her siblings Connie (John) Holck, Gary (Stormy) Trom, Doug Trom, Diane (Wayne) Jensen, Susie (Mike) Matthies, Terry (Annie) Trom, Jodi (Dave) Cochlin, and Darla (Dom) Wondra. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, their spouses, and her great nieces and nephews.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; her sister, Vicki Tischler; and her nephew, Drew Wondra.
On Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 am, a memorial service will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home - Owatonna, 1930 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN 55060.
