David George Givens' Obituary
David George Givens “Downtown Dave” passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023, at the age of 75 surrounded by his wife and children in the comfort of his home. David was born in New Orleans on November 30,1947 to Strother Givens and Ruby Guichet-Givens.
David is survived by Penny Givens, his wife of nearly 42 years; his children, Matthew Givens (Rachel), Kim Givens, Jeffrey Givens, Eric Givens (Chelsea) and Brian Givens (Ashleigh); and his brother, Michael Givens (Donna, Beaumont). David is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Strother and Ruby Givens as well as several lifelong friends.
A native of New Orleans, and proud resident of Abita Springs for over 36 years, David graduated from Cor Jesu High School, in New Orleans, Louisiana. After high school he attended Southeastern Louisiana University and earned his Bachelor’s Degree. David began his professional career as a Repair Technician for Bellsouth and retired in 2001 after 30 years of dedicated service to the company.
David was a loving and caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was riding or repairing Harley Davidson motorcycles, hand-building cypress furniture or camping with his wife and family. David was generous and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His spirit will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
