David D. Davis' Obituary
David D. Davis passed away peacefully at his home in Talisheek after a brief illness on Tuesday October 1st, 2024, at the age of 81. David was born in Sun, Louisiana on November 3, 1942 to David Louis Davis and Martha Olivia Davis.
He is survived by his wife Jannell, his daughter Melissa, sons Jason and Marc, his grandchildren Caleb, Jacob, Logan, and Mia; and his ten siblings: Corky (Larry), Doodley (Stanton), Phyllis, Gary, Dennis, Allen, Jerry, Sally (Linda), Kent, and Janet. Further he is survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. We will all remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brothers Robert (Rusty) and Donald.
A native and resident of Talisheek, Louisiana for the vast majority of his 81 years, David graduated from Covington High School in 1961. In the years following high school, David married Jannell Corkern of Madisonville, La., became a father, and began his professional career as a Louisiana State Trooper. After retiring from the State in his forties, he began his second career as a deputy with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office. David was well known throughout the towns in and around St. Tammany Parish.
David, known to many as D.D, others as Dave, and to his grandchildren as Pop, was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors both locally (he and his brothers were “running in the woods from sunup to sundown” as a kid) and afar (visiting national parks like Sequoia, Yellowstone, and his favorite, Glacier). He was an avid and dedicated reader of books, finishing a book a day more often than not. Literary from an early age, he had a knack for colloquial words and phrases (there might be a wampus cat in the woods one day and a toad strangler of a storm the next) that always brought a smile to those around him. He enjoyed cooking on occasion and his gumbo was a family favorite. He would pass on the best cooking secrets & tricks, while forever learning new ones along the way. However, his true passion was spending time with his family and friends. David was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His strong spirit and big heart will remain in the many memoires of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
The Davis family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Interim Hospice and Lakeview Hospital.
Private family services were held at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on October 5th, 2024. Interment took place following the service at Holmes Cemetery in Talisheek.
