Craig Steven LaFontaine's Obituary
Craig Steven LaFontaine, age 56, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 12, 1970, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at Ochsner Baptist Hospital, where he would later dedicate nearly three decades of his life serving others as a nurse, and where he was respected as both a skilled clinician and compassionate leader. Craig's life was defined by service, generosity, and unwavering love for others.
Craig is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 18 years, April Lorraine LaFontaine. He is survived by his children, Logan Baron (Brandi) and Jaden Hotard; grandchildren, Laurel Sanchez, Freya Baron, and Grayson Baron. He is also survived by his brother, Edward LaFontaine Jr. (Tricia); his niece, Gabrielle LaFontaine (Jacob); his nephew, Josh LaFontaine; and many cherished lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Laura Scianna and Edward Oliver LaFontaine Sr.
To know Craig was to know kindness. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, often with a perfectly timed joke or witty observation. He possessed a generous heart and a genuine concern for the well-being of others and never hesitated to put others’ needs before his own.
Craig also found joy in life's celebrations and creative pursuits. He was a lifelong enthusiast of special effects, drones, holiday decorating, and all things imaginative. But for those who knew him, his greatest passion was blowing things up, in the form of fireworks, of course.
Above all else, Craig loved deeply. Family was always at the center of his life. He poured his heart into being a father, mentor, and role model. The bond he shared with his children was one built on unconditional love, guidance, and steadfast support, and he was the best dad in every way that truly mattered. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, nurse, and mentor. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, the patients he cared for, and the family he cherished. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his love, compassion, and spirit will remain with those who knew him forever.
Pallbearers will be Logan Baron, Jaden Hotard, Edward LaFontaine Jr., Josh LaFontaine, Michael Prestridge, and Johnny Laguaite.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Craig's memory to consider making a contribution to causes that were meaningful to him and his family, including the Northshore Food Bank or the St. Tammany Health Foundation.
