I just learned that Connie Porche passed away on January 15th, 2020. And although I missed the funeral, I am going to take a few minutes today to celebrate the life of this grand Louisiana lady. She was the aunt of one of my dear friends from LSU, Julie Frey McKnight! "But honey", as she would say...there was none of calling her Miss Connie. Oh no....She was "Aunt" Connie to all of Julie's friends too!
There's not one time that I can think that we went to see Aunt Connie and Uncle Jim that we didn't hear about the latest stories of the week - Uncle Jim's trips to a Saints game and Aunt Connie's latest recipe or exercise or diet that she'd heard about and of course....her beloved family. Most of all, she always had an opinion and gave them her own version of major cheerleader support !!!! In fact, we all felt like family actually and accepted her advice gratefully. And like any good Southern household, if there was some food on the stove you tasted it! She told me about a French custom of putting a little champagne on a baby's lips at their christening so when my only child, Julia, was born I made sure we followed through on this time-honored tradition. "Aunt" Connie was special indeed, full of life, vim and vigor!!! Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I'm just not sure Heaven is going to be the same now that she is there!!!!!! Love you Aunt Connie....and all my thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends who will miss you!!!!! Anne Peterson
