Clyde A. Rogers' Obituary
Clyde Allen “Shorty” Rogers passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in Covington, LA. He was born on September 28, 1940 in Memphis, TN to Doris Alene Stevens Rogers. Shorty was raised by his aunt and uncle, Iris and Josh Taylor, and was the oldest brother of seven siblings: Janice, Ronnie, Ralph Muriel, Debbie, Jimmie, Frankie, and Marty.
Shorty, as he was fondly referred to by all his friends and family, was the beloved husband of Wylodine Olree “Yvonne” Rogers. The two would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 10. Shorty was the father of Whitney French (Doug) and Tim Rogers (Stacey). He was proud to be “Pops” to five grandsons: Tim Rogers (Stephanie), Ben French (Cody), Will French, Ethan Rogers (Leandra), and Cameron Rogers. Pops was most excited about his first great-grand daughter, due to join the family, thanks to Ethan and Leandra, in September of this year.
Although Shorty held several positions in the transportation industry, he was and always would be a railroad man. In 1960, at the age of 18, he went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad in Memphis. In 1968, he was transferred to the New Orleans office of the ICRR, where he worked until 1977. Following, he worked at Roscoe, Snyder & Pacific Railroad for six years, then for several transportation companies until his retirement in 2005. No matter where he worked or served in the transportation industry, Shorty was known fondly as a trusted friend and mentor to many of those he worked alongside.
While living in Metairie, Shorty was an active member of Jefferson Christian Church. He and Yvonne moved their family to the Northshore in 1979, where they served as founding members of First Christian Church, Mandeville. Shorty recently formally joined First Baptist Church Covington, where Yvonne had already been attending for many years.
The family would like to thank our friends and family members who supported Shorty during his long illness. Your kindness and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We would also like to offer our deepest thanks to Hospice of St. Tammany, and Hospice House of Slidell, as well as Cassandra Magee, his private home companion, for their compassionate and skilled care in supporting Yvonne throughout this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to Shorty’s Funeral Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12 noon until service time.
