Clay Joseph Leon III's Obituary
Clay Joseph Leon, III, 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, with family at his bedside after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 6, 1954, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Clay Joseph Leon, Jr., and Jacqueline Lacoste Leon.
He was the beloved husband of Ursula Lefrere Leon for 45 years; father of Clay Joseph Leon IV, Danielle Leon Davillier, and Ashley Dina White; grandfather of Victor Isaac Leon; and brother of Irene Leon Grant and Suzanne Leon Spadoni.
Clay was a 1972 graduate of Brother Martin High School. He joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was a loyal member for nearly 50 years. Most recently Clay was an IBEW Fifth District International Representative.
He had a strong bond with his family and found joy in family gatherings. Clay had a passion for the outdoors and loved to hunt and run his beagles with family and friends. He was an avid Saints fan, who also enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, gardening, politics, and playing chess. Many were impressed by Clay’s impeccable memory and his extensive knowledge of history. He found solace in maintaining his exotic aquariums.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ursula Lefrere Leon, daughters, Danielle L. Davillier (Chad) and Ashley D. White; grandson, Victor I. Leon; mother-in-law, Gloria Cousin Lefrere; sisters, Irene L. Grant (William, MD) and Suzanne L. Spadoni (David); sisters-in-law, Madeleine L. Laurent (Jimmy) and Lorey L. Smooth; brother-in-law, Preston Lefrere; aunts, Victoria L. Sylve and Genevieve L. Ziegler; former daughter-in-law, Saajida-Yaasmeen A. Leon; and godsons, Stephen Lacoste, Lance Rouzan, Jared Gourrier, Justin Spadoni, and Patrick Grant.
Clay was preceded in death by his son, Clay J. Leon, IV; parents, Clay J. Leon, Jr., and Jacqueline L. Leon; grandparents, Belgard A. Lacoste, Jr., Irene C. Lacoste; Clay J. Leon, Sr., and Mary L. Leon; aunts, Theresa Leon and Althea G. Lacoste; uncle, Belgard A. Lacoste III; father-in-law, Shelton A. Lefrere, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Matthew M. Lefrere, Shelton A. Lefrere, Jr., and Calvin E. Smooth.
Relatives, friends, members of the IBEW and Tchoupitoulas Beagle Club, are respectfully invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 28088 Main St., Lacombe, LA 70445, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Thomas Kilasara officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until Mass time. Interment at Cousin-Millon Cemetery. Services entrusted to E. J. Fielding Funeral Home.
