Claudette Marie Couvillon Simpson Horn's Obituary
Claudette Marie Couvillion Simpson Horn, age 89 of Covington, entered eternal rest on Saturday morning, November 13, 2021 at Avanti Senior Living. She was born in Plaucheville, Louisiana on January 8, 1932 to Claude Charles Couvillion and Nell Haydel Couvillion.
She was the loving mother of 7 children, Joseph Francis Simpson (Helen Buffington), Shelby “Shan” Simpson McDaniel (RT McDaniel), Shari Simpson Wilcoxon (Jerry Wilcoxon), Suzette Simpson Pellegrini (Jay Pellegrini), Syndie Simpson (d 1985), Shelly Simpson Stubbs (Mike Stubbs), and Sandra Simpson Oliveaux (David Oliveaux). She was the proud grandmother of 20 grandchildren and of 11 great grandchildren. Claudette was the sibling of Dr. Glynne Charles Couvillion of Santa Barbara, CA, Dr. William Anthony Couvillion of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sandra Couvillion Freret of Covington, LA.
Claudette is preceded in death by her husbands, John William Simpson, MD (April 1985) and Norman L. Horn, Jr., PhD. (June 2014); daughter, Syndie Gay Simpson (April 1985); and her parents Claude (June 1996) and Nell Couvillion (November 1990).
Claudette was raised in Baton Rouge and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. Following high school, she graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She soon married her college sweetheart, John W. (Billy) Simpson and moved to New Orleans where he finished his medical degree. They then moved to Mineral Wells, Texas for two years for his military service. They ultimately settled in Covington, LA in March 1963 and began raising their family. In addition to caring for her family, volunteering for too many organizations and groups to list, she also found the time to help manage her husband’s medical offices. She worked with him to conceive, develop, and build multiple medical office buildings, culminating in their biggest masterpiece, Highland Park Hospital, the first private hospital on the Northshore, which opened in 1977, for which she did all the interior design. She also was the CEO of and owner of The New Orleans Pride, a professional woman’s basketball team.
Claudette was a devoted, energic and fun-loving, person. She had many friends and was a fabulous entertainer who took great pride in supporting her husband and family, in her beautiful home and in raising her children. Claudette was unique, well respected and well-loved. She will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Prayer Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana 70433 on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:30 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow the service at Abita Springs Cemetery, 12th Street and St. John Street, Abita Springs, LA 70420.
