Boxcar Willie...that is one of my memories of Mr. Chris. He had one tape of Boxcar Willie that he listened to over and over again in his old truck. I remember his smile...that wink and a nudge on the arm when he was telling you a story. I have known Mr. Chris nearly my entire life. He called me "The Fighter" because I wasn't the type of kid who opened up to people easily...but he never seemed offended by my standoffishness. He would just smile and tell me about one of the horses or something that he had done as a young man. I am going to miss him and I hope he knew that "The Fighter" always loved him...

Technically, Chris and I are cousins. However, in reality, he was so much more. He was a best friend, a mentor, and even a surrogate father. The skill sets that I possess today are largely due to what Chris taught me—how to repair a tractor, how to build a dump truck, even how to keep his old dozer going. In his own quiet way, he passed on his unique philosophies and practical knowledge that an independent man needs to know. I will forever be in his debt. I only hope to honor his life by passing on his knowledge to the next generation—Shane, Terry, Ray, Daniel—and, in time, Dalton, Logan, Owen, Evan and Aaron. I LOVED him and I will never forget him.
Uncle Chris, you will be sooo sadly missed!! Your were so peaceful and caring to us kids growing up! Unbelievable that you were here 90 years. Aunt Shelley, may God be with you during this time. You are an awesome lady!!! Cynthia, everyday is a blessing and I know you know that well. Help Grace remember him as she grows! I wished I could make it tomorrow to the funeral but I am at a school. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. We love you guys!!
