Christa Lynn Toler's Obituary
Christa Lynn Toler, a true gem of a mother, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away April 9, 2019.
Christa was preceded in death by grandparents Christa Pearl Shaffer and Ambrose J. Shaffer Sr., Ada Hoyte Wilkinson and Dean Toler, and her treasured dog and “baby girl”, Pepperanne “Peeps” Marie.
Survived by her most cherished daughter, Jamie Lynn Owens, parents Joyce Arlene Toler and Lawrence Lane Toler, and stepmother Irmgard Bridget Toler, brother Gregory Lane Toler, sister-in-law Shannon ‘Sage’ Y. Toler, nephews Gregory Michael Toler and Brian Adam Toler, and nieces Kelsie Alise Toler, Katelyn Alise Toler, grandnephew Rylan Adam Toler, and grandnieces Alexis Marie Toler and Rylie Elise Toler, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her puppy Charlotte Rose.
Christa was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 15, 1965, and made her home in Covington, LA, with her daughter. She graduated from Amite School Center in 1983 and studied Radiologic Technology at Copiah-Lincoln Community College where she earned her Associates degree in Applied Science in 1986. Christa’s early career began at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, LA, as a Mammographer before continuing to further her career at North Oaks Health System in Hammond, LA, as the Mammography Supervisor.
Christa attended Church of The King in Mandeville, LA, with her family and enjoyed watching butterflies, hummingbirds, blue birds, and cardinals while spending her time gardening. A natural organizer, Christa loved using decorative scissors, color tabs, and colored markers to make unique, beautiful designs that brought great joy to her. Christa’s favorite pastimes included relaxing in her pajamas and slippers while watching Grey’s Anatomy, General Hospital, and Game of Thrones with her daughter, Jamie, feeding her backyard birds, relaxing in the bathtub, reading, having her dessert with milk after dinner, taking her pup Charlotte Rose on walks, and attending concerts with friends. However, her most favorite pastime was relentlessly striving to be the most outstanding mother to her daughter, Jamie.
Christa’s passion for serving others was evident to everyone through her lifelong dedication to her patients, many of whom were recently diagnosed with breast cancer or were receiving their initial evaluation. Christa selflessly cared for her patients before herself and was always there to provide a gentle spirit, a comforting touch, a listening ear, and an encouraging word. To continue Christa’s legacy of caring for others and to honor her generous spirit, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Christa’s name to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 West 44th Street, Suite 609, New York, NY. 10036.
Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Christa are invited to join us for a celebration of her life on April 16, 2019 at EJ Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA. 70433. Visitation will be held 12-2 PM with services beginning at 2 PM. We will continue to celebrate her life following the service at 22183 Rue Coquille, Mandeville, LA. 70471.
In memory of Christa, please remember: Always be kind, always be patient. Always love others as yourself, and always care. Smile often, and laugh without fear of the future. No matter who you are or what life circumstances you face, we are all deserving of happiness, acceptance, and most importantly, love. “In everything, God works for the good of those who love Him” Romans 8:28. “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and will not faint” Isaiah 40:31.
