Chima Lee Williams Clanton's Obituary
Chima Lee Williams Clanton went home to be with her Lord on February 16, 2008. Chima, born and raised in Austin, Texas, graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Chima loved her Lord and worked diligently to share her love and belief with others. She shared her time, talents and passion for music with the children and youth at Briarwood School and Memorial Drive UMC in Houston, Texas for 18 years and then for the next 9 years at Cedarwood School and St. Timothy UMC in Mandeville, Louisiana. She directed children and youth choirs and was a very active member of both the Adult and Handbell Choirs. She loved and cared about so many and was a best friend to all.
Chima was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Karleen Williams, a stepmother Beth Stone Williams and a brother Gerald E. Jr. She is survived by Buz Clanton her loving husband of 37 years, a son Kerry Hughes, a daughter Leah Chima, a brother Jerry Williams and his wife Denise, a sister Jinx Lacey, a stepbrother Rhett Stone and his wife Candy, two wonderful caregivers, Sindy Robinson and Mary Howell, and many, many other fantastic family and friends. Chima was a wonderful aunt to two nephews and five nieces.
A celebration service will be held at St. Timothy UMC in Mandeville, La on March 1, 2008. Visitation is at 10 a.m., the Celebration Service at 11 a.m., and lunch after the service. Following lunch, Chima’s ashes will be spread in the Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Chima Williams Clanton Piano Fund at St. Timothy UMC in Mandeville www.sttimothyumc.org or to the Alzheimer Association www.alz.org.
