Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Timothy Mitchell's Obituary
Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Timothy Mitchell, age 52, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and daughters. He was born on September 27, 1972, in Melbourne, Florida.
Tim honorably served his country across nearly three decades in both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. From 1993 to 1997, he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego, California. Tim was a member of the pre-commissioning crew of the USS Harper’s Ferry (LSD 49) and served on the ship until April 1997. He later joined the Louisiana Air National Guard’s 159th Fighter Wing, serving from 1998 until his retirement on April 1, 2021, and rising to the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
Throughout his military career, Tim specialized in Security Forces, serving in leadership roles such as Security Forces Craftsman, Personnel Superintendent, and Security Forces Career Enlisted Manager. His dedication and excellence earned him multiple commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal and Army Achievement Medal.
He was deeply respected by his peers and those he mentored, known for his quiet leadership, calm presence, and unwavering commitment to those he served alongside. Tim led by example, with integrity and humility, and always prioritized the well-being of his team.
Tim was just as remarkable outside of his military service. He had a playful, adventurous spirit and a creative soul. He loved to surf, body board, skateboard, and draw cartoons. A talented cook, Tim was happiest grilling and camping with family and friends, sharing laughter and good food around the fire. He was excellent at trivia and joked about being a local trivia legend with his friend group and never missed a chance to show off his sharp wit. Among his proudest roles was being a dedicated and loving father and cheer dad, always in the crowd with quiet pride and support. He loved his girls with his whole heart and was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Robin Durel Mitchell, and their two daughters, Samantha Dobbins (Grant) and Mykenzie Mitchell; his mother, Lornna Becker Mitchell; brothers, Thomas Mitchell (Mary) and Michael Mitchell (Sharon); father-in-law, Eric Durel; sister-in-law, Patricia Bratcher (George); and beloved nieces and nephews: Skye Wyatt, Nathan Mitchell, Tyler Bratcher (Tiffany), and Hanna Bratcher.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Thomas Mitchell, and mother-in-law, Patricia Bihli Durel.
Tim’s life was defined not just by his service but by the way he loved his family, lived with joy, and gave quietly and generously to those around him.
A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 2:00 at Benedict’s Plantation, 1144 N. Causeway Blvd, Mandeville, Louisiana. All who knew and loved Tim are welcome to attend and share in honoring his memory. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://woundedwarriorproject.org/donate or to other PTSD support services that aid veterans and their families.
His legacy of honor, love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
