A great friend and a great person to all that knew him. Wishing you strength for today and comfort in the days ahead.
Every time Chet saw Kevin he made him sing a "Joe Cocker" tune. Chet would laugh uncontrollably! We will always remember the good times. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ballex family during this time.
Thank you Chet for allowing my beautiful husband to "serve" you. As I watched this journey of two men diagnosed with cancer unfold, I was taught the unconditional love of two best friends (brothers) like no other. You became a part of Ken's soul and that to me my dear Chet is magical. To my husband Ken Maes, "job well done", to my larger than life Chet, you are now free with our heavenly father. On your holy card I read one sentence that touched me so....miss me a little, but not too long. With Love, Carolyn Maes
Our love is the unfolding miracle
that expands our joy to include pain,
Kenneth and Carolyn Maes
My condolences for all of Chet family he will be miss.
Chet was a great guy and a good cop. I'm sorry that he was taken from us at such a young age.
Gene, Verny and family. Chet will be greatly missed. He really was a devoted father to Verny and a true friend to many. I will especially miss the fun times we had with him at Mardi Gras in the quarter. I will continue my prayers for Chet and his family.
Very sorry to hear the news of Chet and my prayers are with the Ballex family in this time of sorrow.

I still remember very fondly growing up on Hickerson Drive in East Gentilly in the 1960s where my brother Gary and I spent a lot of time with Chet and Gene playing board games at each others' house, camping in the backyards, playing baseball in the lot across from their house, playing touch football barefoot in the street, and so on and so on. Hickerson Drive did not get much traffic so we kids would monopolize it in the summer and jeer at any passing car that "accidentally" happened to drive down it. It was OUR street! And it was always "Chet and Gene," never the other way around or separately. Their father Emile was such a nice man -- and our milkman, too! And their grandmere made us fried banana sandwiches which I fell in love with and still eat to this day! My family left for Houston in 1970 and I lost touch with the Ballexes. But my parents eventually moved back to New Orleans, noticed his obituary, and sent me the link. I was very sad to hear of his fight with cancer and ultimate passing, but it was heartwarming to read in these postings from all those who loved him how great a husband, father, and man he turned out to be. He and Gene were certainly great friends when we were all kids together on magical Hickerson Drive.
Please accept our sympathy and prayers for Chet.
Our deepest sympathies to the Family
