Cheryl McGuffey Hilburn's Obituary
Cheryl McGuffey Hilburn passed away on Friday August 20, 2021 in Covington, LA. She was born on May 14, 1945 in Dallas, TX to the late Charles Wright McGuffey and Dorothy Jo Saunders.
Cheryl was the beloved wife of Robert Earl Hilburn for 52 years. She was the loving mother of Amy Hilburn Robinson, Christi Hilburn Kolb (Clayton), Shelley Hilburn Peak (Rodney), and Bree Singleton. Cheryl was the proud grandmother of her 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on the way. She was the sister of Janice Hixon (Terry), Michael McGuffey (Annice), Patti Christy, and the late David McGuffey (D’etta).
Cheryl was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. She worked as a stewardess for United Airlines. Her career and passion was teaching elementary school. She retired from Abita Springs Elementary School after 39 years. Cheryl spent her retirement traveling and photographing her family and the places she visited. Her love of people helped her create some life-long friends.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged and masks are required to attend services.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service to celebrate Cheryl's life at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16333 LA-1085, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. A wake will take place at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433, on Friday, August 27, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Visitation on Saturday is at church from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow the service at Abita Springs City Cemetery, Abita Springs, LA.
