There really aren't words to describe the loss I feel. Though our paths crossed rarely in recent years, Charlie was one of those "forever" kind of friends. He also played the roll of "boss" during the years I worked at Bellingrath, and to me and many others... he was kind of a father figure, tho not many years our senior. He was a very wise man who imparted his wisdom in love and through example and was respected by all. Thank you to his sweet family for sharing him with so many... for so many years. Charlie was a great person. I first meet him when I was in college working at Avondale Scout Camp. When I started teaching we became closer. When I was named principal of Greenbrier, I relied on him for advice and guidance. We were close during my 26 years at Greenbrier. He was a blessing to all that knew and came in contact with him. I know you ,his family, will miss him. I am very sorry for your loss. Paula and I will keep you in our prayers.

In 1997 when my mom and dad relocated from Chicago to Covington you were the perfect neighbor. I mean you and Vicky. Since that time I always drove down from Dallas twice a year to visit my parents. I saw you twice a year and I am honored for those long conversations that we had about politics,sports,taxes or about life in general.
I was here visiting mom about four weeks ago and I walked over to visit and you were painting your house. We talked about two hours while you were standing on the platform painting. I will never forget that converstion. The memories of your father will be with me for life.
I wish to extend my sympathy to your family during this difficult time.

Charlie Wilkins was a teacher where my husband, Robert J. "Bob" Meador was Principal at Dalton Elementary School in Baton Rouge. He was a wonderful person, teacher, and Principal in East Baton Rouge Parish. He taught one or more of our six children. Everyone loved and respected him and he will not ever be forgotten.
