There really aren't words to describe the loss I feel. Though our paths crossed rarely in recent years, Charlie was one of those "forever" kind of friends. He also played the roll of "boss" during the years I worked at Bellingrath, and to me and many others... he was kind of a father figure, tho not many years our senior. He was a very wise man who imparted his wisdom in love and through example and was respected by all. Thank you to his sweet family for sharing him with so many... for so many years. Charlie was a great person. I first meet him when I was in college working at Avondale Scout Camp. When I started teaching we became closer. When I was named principal of Greenbrier, I relied on him for advice and guidance. We were close during my 26 years at Greenbrier. He was a blessing to all that knew and came in contact with him. I know you ,his family, will miss him. I am very sorry for your loss. Paula and I will keep you in our prayers.

"Mr. Wilkins" was my elementary school principal in the 70's. I still the remember when he would visit our classroom to chat with the students. When you are six, having the principal chat with you up close was like talking with a gentle giant. He was that powerful guy whom gave spankings to bad kids (so we heard), though he came down to us and we could see the other side of him in person. He’d talk about things like doing the right thing, even when no one was looking. It’s been several years since I've seen him, but I’ve kept those memories and his influence with me.

Charlie Wilkins was a teacher where my husband, Robert J. "Bob" Meador was Principal at Dalton Elementary School in Baton Rouge. He was a wonderful person, teacher, and Principal in East Baton Rouge Parish. He taught one or more of our six children. Everyone loved and respected him and he will not ever be forgotten.
