I grew up with Charlie in Lakeview and some other lovely girls and boys on that block. There were other friends throughout Lakeview where we attended parochial school at St. Dominics Parish and all went to church there as well. Charlie was a model boy, usually smarter that the rest of us and generally was our leader. He learned fast and did most things better than the rest of us. Later we grew through adolescence, got into our scrapes and struggles, and all went off to different high schools. Charlie and his brother Donald went to Holy Cross. Mary went to Mount Carmel. Others of us went to St Aloysius, Cor Jesu, Rummel, Redemptorist. At various stages we married. Charlie was best man in my wedding, and later I was best man in his wedding. Careers, families came and we all went separately into our lives. Charlie was always the model young Irishman. As I touched base with him throughout the years, having moved away into life and ministry in my own journey, I caught glimpses of his life and journey. I was never disappointed at the man, husband, father and grandfather he had become. We together always remained grateful for the simple and protected life we lived in the neighborhood of Lakeview. Charlie, the joyful Irishman, was my friend for life. I will never forget him. All blessing and peace to his family.
