Charles Clark Browne's Obituary
Charles Clark Browne, at the age of 84, entered eternal rest peacefully early Saturday morning, November 18, 2023, at his family home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on October 31, 1939.
He is survived by his adoring children, Melissa Browne Moore (Bryan), Melinda Browne Weber (Ken), and Charles Todd Browne. Charles was the proud grandfather of Bobby Welch, Keaton Moore (Amy), Elise Nelson (David), and Paige Weber. He was the great grandfather of Rhett Moore, Levi Moore, Wyatt Moore, Anna Paige Nelson, and a new great grandbaby coming early next year. He was a caring sibling of Turner Browne (Elaine Partnow) and his brother from another mother, Bobby Kester (Dale). Charles will be dearly missed by many wonderful lifelong friends.
Charles was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Ellen Kester Browne; his father, David Clark; his mother, Jessie Mae Hay Browne; and his stepfather, Clay Browne.
Charles was a native of Lake Charles, LA and proud resident of Folsom, LA for over fifty years. After graduating from LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, he attended McNeese University and Texas A&M. He spent much of his adolescence working on the family farm in Gillis, LA, rodeoing, hunting, fishing, and supporting the family business, Browne-Stewart Co. He proudly joined the United States Army on October 22, 1962, and earned 1St LT rank, when he was honorably discharged. Charles was the ultimate salesman. He supported his numerous customers at small feed stores across Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as working with larger national companies. He treasured his time working for Reuter's Seed Company in New Orleans, LA. He truly enjoyed his time as president of Greenlight in San Antonio, TX. On the side, he also owned some small businesses: Charlie Browne’s Christmas Trees in Metairie, LA; Covington Tires in Covington, LA.; Hammond Feed and Seed in Hammond, LA; and Sweet Daddy’s Barbeque in Mandeville and Covington, LA.
Charles was loving, dynamic, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He took great pleasure in telling stories to anyone who would listen, and he had hundreds of stories to share. He enjoyed spending time outdoors taking care of his boats, tractor/lawnmowers, cutting his grass, as well as helping others with anything they may need. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he was at his best on the water. He loved taking his family and friends to a lake or pond and coach them on how best to catch fish.
Charles was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His jovial spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
The Browne family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by St. Tammany Hospice.
