Charles Carroll Bond, Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Carroll Bond Jr., age 91, passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure at his home in Covington, Louisiana on May 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Charles “Charlie” Bond was born in Lockport, Louisiana to Edna Gaudet Bond and Charles Carroll Bond Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Jimmy Gravois and Mike Daigle; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and dear friends who were an important part of his life.
Charlie leaves behind many wonderful memories shared with his beloved wife of 65 years, Beverly Gravois Bond; four children, Charles III “Chuck” Bond and his wife, Pam, of Walnut Creek, California and their children Andrew, Eric, and Nicole Bond; Renee and her husband, Danny Meeks of Mandeville, Louisiana and their daughters Danielle LeSueur (Lon), Kristen Guerry (Michael) and Ashley Hyatt (Robbie); Steven and his wife Lori of Prairieville, Louisiana and Steven’s daughter Candice Osgood; and Brian and his wife, Denise of Metairie, Louisiana and their daughters, Sarah Snellgrove (Drew) and Rachel Connick (Dillon); his adored great-grandchildren, Elias “Eli” Bond; Charlie and Louis LeSueur; Miles and Scottie Carroll Guerry; Molly Snellgrove; Grace Bond and Justin, Keira, and Isabella Hassell; and his sisters-in-law Ruby Gravois Daigle and Deany Gravois.
He graduated from Holy Savoir High School in 1952 and Louisiana State University in 1960. Before graduating from LSU, he proudly served 8 years in the United States Air Force and as a Reservist.
It was at LSU that Charlie met Beverly, the love of his life, on a blind date to an LSU football game—an evening that would shape the next 65 years of his life. Their love was steady, joyful, and enduring, with “Blueberry Hill” as the soundtrack to so many of their memories together. Whether dancing together or simply sitting side by side, they shared a bond that was evident to everyone around them.
Charlie had a distinguished 34-year career with Pan-American Life Insurance Group, retiring in 1994 as Vice President of Group Claims. Throughout his tenure, Charlie was respected for his leadership and made many cherished and lifelong friendships.
Beyond his professional life, Charlie was deeply committed to his faith and community. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Christopher in Metairie, Louisiana and Mary Queen of Peace in Mandeville, Louisiana when Charlie and Beverly moved to Covington, Louisiana in 1996. He became a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus and gave generously of his time in service to others.
Charlie embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He found joy in long-distance running as a member of the Heavy Rollers and the 15th Street Flyers and continued to race until he was 76 years old. He also had a profound love for the outdoors, fishing, watching the LSU Tigers, and staying active at West St. Tammany YMCA.
Above all, he treasured time with his family—fishing trips with his children and championing his grandchildren in all their extracurricular activities — attending soccer games, horse shows, cross-country meets, and swim meets, as well as celebrating life’s milestones—always showing up with pride, love, and unwavering support.
To know Charlie was to know loyalty, generosity, and deep love for family and friends. More than a title or accomplishment, Charlie will be remembered by all those he loved as “Papa” – a gentleman with a quiet presence, known for his witty banter and warm smile. Charlie was an avid animal lover and cherished his loyal canine companions. His greatest joy came from family gatherings – plates piled high with BB’s home cooking, and everyone playing with the family dogs in the backyard. He leaves behind his faithful shadow, Riley, who remained by his side until Charlie entered eternal peace.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, La. 70447 on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11am, with visitation starting at 10am, and reception following the service. Inurnment of ashes will be at a later date at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie, Louisiana.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to his amazing caregivers Sharon Urbina and Quinese Chapman, who treated Charlie with the utmost compassion and who became true friends. The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to his incredible neighbors of Nottoway subdivision. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Tammany Hospice.
