Charlene Blanchard Harvey Shelton's Obituary
CHARLENE HARVEY SHELTON, born Charlene Ann Blanchard, passed away on April 6, 2016 after a 7 month battle with cancer. Charlene was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana to Charles Marquette Blanchard and Aline Seely Blanchard. She moved to New Orleans as a young child and attended Ursuline Academy where she graduated high school in 1959. She was married to Robert G. Harvey Sr. She lived in New Orleans and Metairie until her second marriage to Iley J. Shelton in 1984. They moved to the North shore where she lived until her death. Charlene was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of St. Anselm Parish. Charlene never met a stranger and showed kindness, love and compassion to everyone she came in contact with. Charlene loved baseball and traveling but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her incredible spirit, beautiful smile, love of life but most of all her amazing unconditional love.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Aline Seely Blanchard, her father Charles Marquette Blanchard and her husband Iley J. Shelton. She is survived by her sons, Robert G. Harvey, Jr, (Jane,), Kevin P. Harvey, Sr, (Belinda), Charles Marquette Harvey (Joanne) and her daughter Elizabeth Harvey Wyatt (David.). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren – Elizabeth, Lauren, Robert III, Taylor, Kevin Jr, Samantha, Courtney, Nicole, Clay, Claire, Alexis, Drew, DJ, Austin, Alexander and Parker. She also is survived by 9 great grandchildren - Cade, Austin, Emily, Olivia, Robert IV, Kinsley, Kevin III, Jacob and Molly.
The family would like to thank all of the employees of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center as well as her friend Susan, Bridgette her hospice nurse, Crystal her hospice aide and Chantel and Rebekah.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 09, 2016 at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St. Madisonville, LA 70447.
Visitation on Friday, April 08, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 and on Saturday, April 09, 2016 at St. Anselm Catholic Church from 11:00 AM to service time.
Interment in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery St. Benedict, LA.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. Anselm’s Church, Ursuline Academy, Archbishop Rummel High School or Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
